If there is one thing all parents agree on it’s that children grow up way too quickly. The first year is full of milestones and changes and endless “firsts”. One day you’re welcoming a new baby home and the next you’re welcoming guests in to celebrate their birthday. And on the cycle continues every year after that- watching them grow and change all the while wondering how it went so fast.

Capturing Momentous Milestones

I love milestone shoots, especially first birthday and cake smash sessions! It’s a fun chance to capture your sweet babies while they’re stepping out of the “baby” stage and into a whole new world of eagerness, curiosity, and play. I recently was lucky enough to photograph precious Peyton’s first birthday with a cake smash session. Her mama made the cake, which was almost too pretty to dig into! I think Peyton agreed as she cautiously dug in for just a little taste.

The greenery her mama picked out and the adorable banner she brought along as well worked perfectly with our studio session. Peyton did a fantastic job sitting and posing for her very first birthday pictures. She seemed to love her cake and was just soaking up the spotlight. Eventually, she decided she was over it, as most kiddos do, and the waterworks began. Of course, I captured those too, because at this age they can get away with still looking totally adorable while in meltdown mode.

As a mama myself, I know that first year flew by for Peyton’s loved ones. But I’m so glad they have these sweet photos to remember this special time. Happy birthday, sweet girl!!
